Just like TV killed the radio star, Internet is taking over Television.
We see it happening all around us. Walk into a Deli or some kind of restaurant, Look for a TV. Hardly any have them, and if they do, then they most likely have Wi-Fi or Wireless internet too.
In fact most restaurants, coffee shops and lounge type building have wireless internet. It's almost a shock to walk into one, flip open your laptop and not get any signal. We see how cars now have TVs built into them, and now most of them have a GPS system and other Internet like capabilities.
But the main change is the new Digital Conversion Boxes. Allot of people are wondering if they should even bother spending the money on them. If they are watching less on regular TV, why spend the money.
If people are addicted to a particular show, It is rare that they miss an episode. But if they do, they can go online and watch the episode that they missed. There are many sites that allow you to watch TV streaming online. There are many benefits to doing this. You have limited commercials. Most commercial segments are only 30 seconds long, and then you are back to your program, and if you want more info on a certain ad, you simply click it to bring up the companies website. The other benefit is more selective viewing. You watch what you want when you want.
Tons of people use the internet for news and weather, they don't have to wait around for the nightly news to start. They go to the computer, choose a news company that they like, look at the headlines and see if anything interests them. Done. We see stars rising to fame without ever going on Television, thanks to popular video sites such as YouTube. Its literly a whole other world. You can watch Webisodes, Movies, Cooking shows, anything!
Nearly 80 million Americans (43% of those who go online) have watched a TV show on the Internet, according to a February survey by Solutions Research Group in Toronto. in 2008, the figure was 25%.
I personally think that by the year 2011, TV will be very low on the Media Totem Pole. Computers with Internet will be the "Hype". Of course by 2011 something new could be invented to outdo the Internet. Who knows...
My advise, Spend less $$$ on the TV and focus more on your PC.
